Artist Statement:
At its heart, this is Healing in Community. Día de los Muertos itself is the ultimate act of collective care: where death is honored rather than feared, where ancestors guide the living, and where grief transforms into celebration. Some will chase trophies, but the true crown was venerated long ago. The crown of crows follows us wherever we go—reminders of endings that are beginnings, guardians in flight. Like doves in the wind, our crown is not placed on this plane. It sits above, eternal, unshaken, already ours. The horse beneath, painted with vibrant sugar skull patterns and shimmering embellishments, becomes a symbol of A Future We Shape—where our artistry leads, commands, and redefines spaces once closed to us. As above, so below. Bendiciones para los cielos.
