Artist Statement:
La Misericordia emerges from the deep-rooted values of compassion, reciprocity, and shared care within Latin communities. The work reflects on the ways we hold one another through silence, tenderness, and presence—gestures that often speak louder than words. The abstract forms evoke two beings in quiet proximity, their boundaries soft and overlapping, suggesting that healing is not a solitary act but one made possible through relationship. In many Latin traditions, mercy (misericordia) is not only an individual virtue but a communal practice—expressed through offering food, listening, prayer, laughter, or simply being together. These everyday acts create sanctuaries of joy and resilience, even in the face of hardship. Through warm earth tones and layered transparencies, the piece embodies both vulnerability and strength, reflecting how communities nurture emotional well-being by holding space for rest and renewal.
